BCA Float 22 L Avalanche Airbag
The BCA Float 22 is Backcountry Access’s mid-sized avalanche airbag. The Float 22 avalanche airbag is designed for out-of-bounds, off-piste, freeride, and mechanized skiing and snowboarding. Creating buoyancy and helping you float to the surface, the 150-liter airbag not only decreases your burial depth but also protects your head and neck from trauma in an avalanche.
The BCA Float 22L is BCA’s lightest and most affordable airbag backpack available, it will easily carry your winter rescue tools, lunch, water, and an extra layer for a full day in the backcountry.
The pack includes a dedicated shovel/probe pocket, helmet and diagonal ski carry system, padded waist belt pockets, and optional snowboard carry attachment (sold separately).
BCA’s 200 authorized refill locations around the world make it an easily refillable airbag. Float air cylinder must be purchased separately.
BCA 1.0 vs. 2.0 Systems:
By increasing the efficiency of their ejector (Venturi) and adding 300 psi to the cylinder, Backcountry Access has made their cylinder 30% smaller and the whole system 20% lighter. In addition to losing weight in the engine and cylinder, the fabrics are lighter and include fewer layers. The cylinder pressure is now 2800-3000 psi instead of 2500-2700 psi.
One huge benefit of the scaled-down ejector and cylinder is that everything now fits inside the airbag compartment, leaving the main compartment free of the cylinder, trigger cable, and air hose (“plumbing”) that now occupy BCA Float 1.0 packs. This means you have more useable volume in the pack’s main storage compartment.
