Heli, snowcat, and lift-assist powder days call for a pack sized differently than a full backcountry touring rig, and the Poacher R.A.S. 26L delivers the same refined fit and carry as its bigger Poacher siblings in a more compact package. It's a panel loader with dedicated avalanche tool storage and back panel access, so you're not digging through your whole pack for your shovel. The molded back panel keeps the fit snug and comfortable through the descent. Most importantly, this pack is built to accept the Mammut Removable Airbag System 3.0 with Dakine's own RollTop airbag closure, sold separately, so you can add active airbag protection to this exact pack when you're ready.

BUYERS' GUIDE
Read this one carefully before you buy: this pack does not come with an airbag. "R.A.S." stands for Removable Airbag System, meaning the pack is built to accept Mammut's R.A.S. 3.0 airbag unit, which you'll need to buy separately if you want active airbag protection. If you already own a Mammut R.A.S. 3.0 unit from another pack, this is a great way to get a smaller, lift-assist-sized pack without buying a whole new airbag system. If you don't own the unit yet, budget for it as a separate purchase, and check that we've got it in stock or can order it in before you commit to this pack expecting airbag protection out of the box. Sized right for heli and cat days, this is noticeably more compact than a full 32-40L touring pack, exactly what you want when you're not carrying skins or extra layers for a long climb.
