The Carbon Pro Probe 280 Speed Lock is Mammut’s professional probe, built for speed in the most complicated rescues. High-quality carbon keeps it light and rigid, and the glove-friendly Speed Lock system tensions quickly, with an audible click that tells you it’s fully engaged. The handle clips onto the extended probe to keep it out of the way, and the drop-shaped tip is designed to cut through debris and save energy while you probe. The bottom section is bright orange so you can see when you’re nearing a buried victim. It’s UIAA certified.

BUYERS’ GUIDE
This is the lightest 280 cm probe we carry, and it’s built for people who probe a lot, like guides and patrollers, or anyone who wants the fastest setup. At 280 g it’s 70 g lighter than the Ortovox Alu 280, and 30 g lighter than the aluminum Probe 280 Speed Lock in Mammut’s kits. The tradeoff is price. Carbon costs more than aluminum, so if you’re a recreational rider, an aluminum probe will do the same job for less. The details that matter are the Speed Lock and the orange bottom section. You can assemble it with gloves on and feel it click into place, and the orange tells you at a glance when you’re close. Treat a carbon probe with a little more care than aluminum, and keep it in its cover. Whatever probe you carry, practise pulling and locking it before you need it, and keep it with a beacon and shovel you know how to use.
