The Probe Alu 280 is Ortovox’s second-longest aluminum avalanche probe, developed for deep snow. High-strength aluminum alloy and a 12.7 mm diameter keep it stable and precise when you’re probing. Ortovox’s PFA quick-assembly system gets it ready for use right away, and a visual guide system with a 1.5 m depth marking supports a structured, efficient search. It weighs 350 g and is UIAA certified for avalanche rescue probes.

BUYERS’ GUIDE
The 280 cm length is a step up from the standard 240 cm probe. It suits deep snowpacks, bigger terrain, and riders who want extra margin, since a burial can be deeper than most people expect. The tradeoff is a bit more weight and a longer probe to handle. If you’d rather save grams, ask us about Ortovox’s 240 cm probe, or its longer 320 cm option for the deepest snow. The 1.5 m marker is a useful reference when you’re probing, since it tells you quickly how deep you are. If you’re comparing it to the BCA Stealth or Black Diamond Quickdraw probes we carry, the real difference is in how they assemble, so try each one in your hands. Practise pulling and locking it with cold hands before you need it. Whatever probe you carry, pair it with a beacon and shovel you know how to use. The Ortovox Shovel Beast makes a good match.
