The future of freeriding just got lighter. The Avabag LiTRIC Freeride 26S pairs Ortovox's shortened S-back with the LiTRIC electronic airbag system, the tech co-developed with Arc'teryx that ditched the cartridge entirely. No canister to weigh, no canister to travel with, no canister to replace after every pull. Just charge it, clip in, and go find some spines.
At 26 litres it's dialled for big backcountry days: enough room for your kit, shovel, probe and a spare layer, without turning into a full multi-day hauler. Because it runs on the modular BASE + ZIP system, this same airbag unit can be swapped between different pack sizes down the road, so you're not locked into one bag for the life of the system.

Buyer's guide
This is a freeride-specific pack, not a touring pack, so keep that in mind:
-
Torso length matters here. The "S" isn't just a size label, it's a genuinely shorter back panel. If other Ortovox packs have ridden too tall on you, this is built to fix that.
-
26L is a day-mission volume. Think lift-accessed freeride laps, sidecountry, and single-day backcountry missions. For multi-day tours, look at the Tour zip-on options that fit the same BASE.
-
Electronic vs. cartridge. LiTRIC trades the classic canister for a rechargeable system. Great if you fly a lot (no cartridge, no airline headaches) or hate maintaining a canister. If you prefer a compressed-air trigger you already know, a cartridge system like the Ridge 3.0 might suit you better.
-
Think ahead. Because the BASE is modular, buying into this system means you can grow into a different pack size later without rebuying the airbag electronics.
