The AVABAG LiTRIC Tour 30 is a lightweight electronic airbag pack built for ski touring, from after-work laps to multi-day trips. It runs on Ortovox’s LiTRIC system, which uses supercapacitors instead of a cartridge, so there’s nothing to refill, weigh, or dispose of. It charges over USB-C in about 25 minutes, and one charge gives you at least two activations. The pack is a Base plus a Zip-On bag, and the Zip swaps out, so one airbag can serve a small day pack and a bigger touring pack. It won Backcountry Skiing Canada’s Gear of the Year and an ISPO Award in 2022.

BUYERS’ GUIDE
The Base-plus-Zip design is the smart part. You buy the Base with this 30 L Zip, and if your trips change, you can add another Zip-On bag for much less than a second airbag pack. One owner who swapped between the 18 and 30 L Zips said the 30 was the more versatile one, and that changing them was easy. Register the pack when you get it, since that extends the warranty from two to five years. When it arrives, run a test activation. LiTRIC lets you test as often as you like at no cost, and you should know it works and know how to repack it before you’re in the field. Charge it before each trip and use the leg strap every time. Because there’s no cartridge, travel is simpler, and Ortovox has an air travel sheet you can carry when you fly. One owner noted the waist belt has no pocket, so plan where your small items will go. Whatever pack you pick, bring your beacon, probe, and shovel, and practice with them.
