The Shovel Pro Light is Ortovox’s lightweight avalanche shovel for ski tourers who count grams but still want a solid tool. It weighs just 440 g, thanks to carefully placed notches in the blade, and the high sidewalls and center ridge keep it rigid. The shaft is 7075 T6 aluminum, telescopic with a quick lock that doesn’t need a button press, and the handle switches over so it works for left and right handers. It’s certified to the UIAA 156 avalanche shovel standard.

BUYERS' GUIDE
What to think about when making the most important shovel decision of your life:
Size - do the shaft and blade fit in your pack? (note: the bigger the shaft and blade - the more effective the shovel is).
Weight - is it light enough to carry if you're ski touring?
Durability - will it stand up to the rigors of digging through avalanche debris? (note: more durable shovels are inevitably heavier!)
Grip: D-grip vs. T-Grip - D-Grips are more ergonomic and will make you a better shovel, but are heavier than a T-Grip.
